{"id":6147,"date":"2022-12-18T04:44:47","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T23:14:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6147"},"modified":"2025-03-27T13:04:59","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T07:34:59","slug":"what-is-the-indian-historical-records-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-indian-historical-records-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Indian Historical Records Committee?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is it?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>IHRC is an <strong>all-India Forum of creators, custodians and users of records<\/strong> which was set up in 1919 to advice the Government of India on all issues connected with the management of records and their use for historical research.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secretariat<\/strong>: The <strong>National Archives of India,<\/strong> New Delhi is the Secretariat of Indian Historical Records Committee (re-designated Indian Historical Records Committee in 1911).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The IHRC is headed by the Union Minister of Culture<\/strong> and comprises 134 members including agencies of the Government of India, nominees of the Government of India, representatives from the State\/UT Archives, Universities and Learned Institutions. The IHRC has so far held 62 sessions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Committee has two adjunct bodies<\/strong> :\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Editorial Committee <\/strong>to examine and approve papers based on archival sources for being presented at the Sessions of the Committees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Standing Committee<\/strong> to review the action taken by the Committee on its recommendations and express its views on the agenda for the Committee\u2019s meeting.\u00a0 <strong>Secretary, Ministry of Culture acts as the Chairman <\/strong>of the Standing Committee of IHRC. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the National archives of India?<\/h3>\n<p>Established on 11 March 1891 at Calcutta (Kolkata) as the Imperial Records Department, the National Archives of India is the custodian of the records of enduring value.
