sanitation, and handwashing.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>All 1.4 billion Indians live in areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where <\/span><b>pollution levels exceed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the World Health Organization\u2019s<\/span><b> (WHO\u2019s) safe limit of 5 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3 for PM2.5.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>northern belt<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is still the <\/span><b>world\u2019s most polluted zone,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 544.4 million people (38.9 percent of India\u2019s population) living under severe air pollution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Delhi-NCR is the worst hit,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with<\/span><b> residents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> facing a <\/span><b>loss of 8.2 years in life expectancy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><b>based on WHO\u2019s standard).\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Bihar: 5.6 years lost\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Haryana: 5.3 years lost\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Uttar Pradesh: 5 years lost<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Even by India\u2019s weaker PM2.5 standard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 40 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3, <\/span><b>Delhi-NCR residents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would still l<\/span><b>ose 4.74 years of life expectancy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shockingly, the report notes that <\/span><b>46 percent of Indians live in areas that exceed even India\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pm25-pollution-declines-in-india-boosting-life-expectancy-by-one-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">PM2.5 standards<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>If pollution levels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were<\/span><b> reduced to meet this national benchmark<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Indians <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">could <\/span><b>gain an average of 1.5 years of life expectancy.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meeting WHO\u2019s stricter 5 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3 guideline could add up to 9.4 months even in cleaner regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:
