{"id":62111,"date":"2025-09-05T13:02:51","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T07:32:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=62111"},"modified":"2025-09-05T13:15:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T07:45:01","slug":"particularly-vulnerable-tribal-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/particularly-vulnerable-tribal-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Tribal Affairs requested the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (RGI) to consider enumerating particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) separately in the upcoming Census.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PVTGs are a <\/span><b>sub-category of Scheduled Tribes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (STs) and are more vulnerable among the tribal groups in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The criteria for identifying Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups are:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A declining or stagnant population,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geographical isolation,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use of pre-agrarian practices (such as hunting and gathering),<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economic backwardness and relatively low literacy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This category was created based on the <\/span><b>recommendations of the Dhebar Commission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1960-61) \u2014 led by former Member of Parliament U N Dhebar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At present there are <\/span><b>75 tribal groups considered<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as PVTGs and they are currently spread <\/span><b>across 18 states, and<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Union Territory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the recent survey, there were an estimated 47.5 lakh PVTGs across India. <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had the <\/span><b>highest estimated population<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of PVTGs, followed by <\/span><b>Maharashtra <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with an estimated population of 6.7 lakh, and <\/span><b>Andhra Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Livelihoods:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> PVTGs depend on various livelihoods such as <\/span><b>food gathering, Non Timber Forest Produce<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NTFP), hunting, livestock rearing, shifting cultivation and artisan works.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Welfare scheme for PVTGs<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>PM JANMAN scheme:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Under this the government rolled out the Rs 24,104 crore with an aim to <\/span><b>improve the socio-economic status<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, health, education, livelihoods and amenities for PVTGs in more than 200 districts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/particularly-vulnerable-tribal-groups-pvtg-census-10229611\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IE<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups are a sub-category of Scheduled Tribes (STs) and are more vulnerable among the tribal groups in India.
