{"id":63182,"date":"2025-09-12T14:59:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T09:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=63182"},"modified":"2025-09-12T14:59:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T09:29:14","slug":"isobutanol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/isobutanol\/","title":{"rendered":"Isobutanol"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Isobutanol Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is working to explore the possibility of blending 10% isobutanol with diesel, Union Minister for Transport said recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Isobutanol<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isobutanol , also called <\/span><b>isobutyl alcohol,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an alcohol with the chemical formula <\/span><b>C\u2084H\u2081\u2080O <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>one of the four isomers of butanol.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> clear, colorless liquid <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a <\/span><b>characteristic odor.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is only <\/span><b>moderately soluble in water.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>very flammable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has a<\/span><b> flash point<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that is only <\/span><b>slightly above normal room temperatures.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>vapors are heavier than air<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and can <\/span><b>spread unnoticed along the ground.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Skin contact, ingestion, and inhalation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of isobutanol can be<\/span><b> harmful to health.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The compound<\/span><b> causes skin irritation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>severe eye damage, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including loss of vision.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Isobutanol <\/b><b>Applications<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>used as a solvent in the flavor, fragrance, pharmaceutical, and pesticide industries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and as a <\/span><b>chemical manufacturing ingredient <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for products such as lacquer, paint strippers, paint primer<\/span><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and craft paints.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an approved <\/span><b>food additive<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is also<\/span><b> naturally occurring in some foods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and many <\/span><b>alcoholic beverages.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isobutanol may also be <\/span><b>used as a biofuel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because, <\/span><b>like ethanol,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it<\/span><b> can be manufactured from plants. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can be <\/span><b>made from ethanol using fermentation processes.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It possesses some favorable properties that make it an attractive fuel for internal combustion engines.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, when<\/span><b> compared to ethanol,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> isobutanol features a <\/span><b>higher heating value.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isobutanol is <\/span><b>less corrosive than ethanol<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is <\/span><b>much less hygroscopic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which <\/span><b>enables it to be transported using the existing fuel infrastructure.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, <\/span><b>its addition to gasoline does not distort the fuel blend\u2019s vapor pressure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the same extent as ethanol does.
