


{"id":63439,"date":"2025-09-14T16:21:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T10:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=63439"},"modified":"2025-09-16T15:22:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T09:52:33","slug":"national-botanical-research-institute-nbri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-botanical-research-institute-nbri\/","title":{"rendered":"National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Botanical Research Institute Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) recently achieved a breakthrough by cultivating the exotic flower, Eustoma, native to Mexico and America, in Odisha after successfully growing it on its campus in Lucknow. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Botanical Research Institute<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is amongst one of the <\/span><b>constituent research institutes of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the city of <\/span><b>Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>multi-disciplinary plant research centre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of international repute, undertaking <\/span><b>basic and applied R&amp;D programmes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in several strategically important areas of <\/span><b>plant sciences.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Originally set up as<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>National Botanic Gardens (NBG) by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the State Government of <\/span><b>Uttar Pradesh (U.P.),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it was <\/span><b>taken over by the CSIR in 1953.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though initially engaged in research work in the classical botanical disciplines, the NBG went on laying an increasing emphasis, in keeping with the national needs and priorities in the field of plant sciences, on its applied and developmental research activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NBG was <\/span><b>renamed as the NBRI,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> i.e., The National Botanical Research Institute <\/span><b>in 1978.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objectives:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basic and applied <\/span><b>research on plant diversity <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and prospection, <\/span><b>plant-environment interaction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and biotechnological approaches for <\/span><b>plant improvement.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Development of technologies for new plant and microbial sources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of commercial importance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Building up germplasm repository of plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of indigenous and exotic origin, including rare, endangered and threatened species<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Providing expertise and assistanc<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e for <\/span><b>identification, supply and exchange of plants <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and propagules, <\/span><b>garden layout and landscaping.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Dissemination of scientific knowledge <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and technologies<\/span><b> on plants and microbial resources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through publications, training, capacity building and extension activities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NBRI <\/span><b>R&amp;D department has seven divisions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under which they conduct various researches. Those seven divisions are<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plant Diversity, Systematics and Herbarium.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry and Product Development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plant Ecology and Environment Technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plant Genetic Resources and Improvement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Botanical Garden, Plant Conservation and Agro-technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S &amp;
