{"id":63860,"date":"2026-02-11T11:24:49","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T05:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=63860"},"modified":"2026-02-11T15:29:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T09:59:50","slug":"almatti-dam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/almatti-dam\/","title":{"rendered":"Almatti Dam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Almatti Dam Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Andhra Pradesh chief minister recently objected to Karnataka&#8217;s move to increase the height of the Almatti Dam on the Upper Krishna.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Almatti Dam<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almatti Dam, situated on the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/krishna-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">Krishna River<\/a> in Karnataka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is a <\/span><b>multipurpose dam <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">primarily used for i<\/span><b>rrigation, hydroelectric power generation, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>flood control.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It stands at a height of 52.5 meters and extends 3.5 kilometers in length.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dam was <\/span><b>completed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in July <\/span><b>2005<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The annual electric output of the dam is 713,000,000 kilowatts (KW).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dam holds a gross water storage capacity of 123.08 TMC at 519 meters MSL.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> main reservoir of <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Upper Krishna Irrigation Project;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>290 MW power station<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is located on the right side of the Almatti Dam.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The facility uses vertical Kaplan turbines: five 55 MW generators and one 15 MW generator.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>After generating power, water is released into the Narayanpur reservoir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to meet the irrigation requirements downstream.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Seven terrace gardens <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have been developed as a picnic spot in the dam area.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On one side of the dam, a <\/span><b>garden named &#8220;Rock Hill&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has an <\/span><b>artificial forest with ceramic wild animals and birds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and many idols representing village life in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deccanherald.com\/india\/andhra-pradesh\/andhra-cm-naidu-objects-to-karnatakas-plan-to-increase-alamatti-dam-height-3894207\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almatti Dam, situated on the Krishna River in Karnataka, is a multipurpose dam primarily used for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and flood control.
