text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>largest air base in Afghanistan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, located<\/span><b> north of the capital, Kabul.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a strategic position at the <\/span><b>crossroads of Iran, Pakistan, China&#8217;s Xinjiang province, and Central Asia.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It had served as a <\/span><b>crucial hub in the US war against the Taliban <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Al Qaeda <\/span><b>since 2001.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The base also housed <\/span><b>fast-food restaurants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to cater to the US troops, along with shops selling everything from electronics to Afghan rugs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bagram also had a <\/span><b>massive prison complex.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The base<\/span><b> fell under <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the control of the <\/span><b>Taliban after they swept to power in the country in 2021, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the US troops having withdrawn from the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
