{"id":65231,"date":"2025-09-26T12:50:47","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T07:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=65231"},"modified":"2025-09-27T15:23:47","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T09:53:47","slug":"forum-for-india-pacific-islands-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/forum-for-india-pacific-islands-cooperation\/","title":{"rendered":"Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Indian External Affairs hosted a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) in New York.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>a multilateral platform <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">established by India to enhance cooperation with the <\/span><b>Pacific Island countries.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established in 2014<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the Prime Minister of India\u2019s visit to Fiji<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Member countries:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FIPIC includes 14 of the island countries \u2013 Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>line with the &#8220;Act East Policy&#8221;,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through FIPIC, India has primarily focused its efforts on the Pacific Islands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Economic Cooperation:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this moment, total annual trade of about $300 million between the Indian and Pacific Island countries, whereas exports are around $200 million and imports are around $100 million.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>FIPIC Summits held:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Since 2014 three FIPIC summits have been held, <\/span><b>1st 2014<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Suva, Fiji), <\/span><b>2nd 2015 (<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jaipur, India), <\/span><b>3rd 2023 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Initiatives of India related to FIPIC<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting up of a special <\/span><b>USD one million fund<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for adapting to <\/span><b>climate change<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and clean energy, establishing a trade office in India,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pan <\/span><b>Pacific Islands e-network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve digital connectivity,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visa on arrival at Indian airports for all the 14 Pacific Island countries,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooperation in <\/span><b>space technology applications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for improving the quality of life of the islands, and <\/span><b>training to diplomats from<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pacific Island countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsonair.gov.in\/eam-s-jaishankar-hosts-fipic-foreign-ministers-meeting-in-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">News On Air<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation is a multilateral platform established by India to enhance cooperation with the Pacific Island countries.
