In this article, we are going to cover the Caribbean Sea, its boundaries and islands, climate and significance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caribbean Sea<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Caribbean Sea is one of the largest tropical seas in the world, situated in the western Atlantic Ocean, spreading between latitudes 9\u00b0 and 22\u00b0 N and longitudes 89\u00b0 and 60\u00b0 W. It covers an area of nearly 2,753,000 square kilometers, making it a vital part of the Earth\u2019s marine geography.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Southern boundary:<\/strong> Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Western boundary:<\/strong> Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico\u2019s Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Northern boundary:<\/strong> The Greater Antilles, which include Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Eastern boundary:<\/strong> The Lesser Antilles, a chain of smaller islands stretching from the Virgin Islands down to Trinidad and Tobago.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among these, Jamaica, situated south of Cuba, is the largest island in the Caribbean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Caribbean Sea, along with the Gulf of Mexico, is sometimes also called the American Mediterranean, since both are enclosed between major landmasses. However, they differ greatly in their climate, currents, and water characteristics.
