summit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> scheduled for February 2026, which will build upon European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen\u2019s earlier visit to India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EU has also released a strategic agenda outlining its vision for ties with India, anchored on five key pillars and a India\u2019s \u201call-weather\u201d friend and a counterbalance to the uncertainties in U.S. foreign policy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Five Pillars of the New India\u2013EU Strategic regional stability, and countering traditional and hybrid threats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Connectivity and Global Issues<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 strengthening cooperation in third countries and global governance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Enablers Across Pillars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 promoting skills mobility, mutual understanding, business linkages, research collaboration, and stronger institutional frameworks for EU\u2013India relations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Prosperity and Sustainability: Strengthening India\u2013EU Economic and Trade Ties<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>EU is India\u2019s largest trading partner<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while India is the EU\u2019s biggest partner in the Global South.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2024, <\/span><b>bilateral trade in goods reached \u20ac120 billion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 a 90% rise over the past decade \u2014 with services adding another \u20ac60 billion.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 6,000 European companies operate in India, directly employing 3 million people and indirectly supporting millions more.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EU foreign direct investment has surged to \u20ac140 billion in 2023, nearly doubling in five years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite these gains, <\/span><b>India accounts for less than 2.5% of the EU\u2019s trade<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Indian investment in the EU stands at only \u20ac10 billion.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To expand ties, both sides are pushing to finalise a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by 2025 to cut tariff and non-tariff barriers.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are also negotiating an Investment Protection Agreement, a bilateral macroeconomic dialogue, a Geographical Indications pact, and a comprehensive air transport agreement, all aimed at deepening economic cooperation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>India\u2013EU Collaboration on Emerging Technologies<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and the EU are leveraging complementary strengths to drive innovation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EU offers world-class research, regulation, and green-digital expertise, while India contributes a skilled workforce, vast datasets, a thriving startup ecosystem, and frugal innovation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned initiatives include <\/span><b>EU-India Innovation Hubs<\/b><span aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the Euratom-India agreement will boost collaboration in peaceful nuclear energy, including reactor safety, waste management, nuclear security, and fusion research.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>India\u2013EU Connectivity and Strategic Corridors<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span India via the Mediterranean, Middle East, and East Africa.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will ensure ultrafast, secure, and resilient data connectivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, India and the EU are developing <\/span><b>Green Shipping Corridors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to promote sustainable maritime trade and reduce reliance on carbon-intensive transport routes, further boosting commercial and strategic opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Deepening India\u2013EU Security and Defence Cooperation<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and the EU are strengthening ties through the Strategic Dialogue on Foreign and Security Policy (2025), with thematic discussions on maritime security, cybersecurity, counterterrorism, and non-proliferation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A formal <\/span><b>EU-India Security and Defence
