


{"id":6567,"date":"2023-03-25T05:10:17","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T23:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6567"},"modified":"2025-03-27T15:38:29","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T10:08:29","slug":"msp-for-jute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/msp-for-jute\/","title":{"rendered":"MSP for Jute"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About <\/strong><strong>Jute:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Jute is one of the most important natural fibres after cotton in terms of cultivation and usage<\/li>\n<li><strong>Climatic conditions required for its growth<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Temperature:<\/strong> Between 25-35\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rainfall:<\/strong> Around 150-250 cm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Soil Type:<\/strong> Well-drained alluvial soil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>India is the largest producer of jute followed by Bangladesh and China.<\/li>\n<li>It is mainly grown in eastern India because of the rich alluvial soil of the Ganga-Brahmaputra delta.<\/li>\n<li>In India, major jute-producing states include <strong>West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya and Tripura.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is the Minimum support price?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum support price (MSP) is a <strong>minimum price<\/strong> for any crop that the Government considers as remunerative for farmers and hence deserving of \u201csupport\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>It is also the price that Government agencies pay whenever they procure a particular crop from the farmers.<\/li>\n<li>There is currently <strong>no statutory backing for these prices<\/strong>, nor any law mandating their enforcement.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crops covered under MSP:<\/strong> At present, the Central Government sets <strong>MSP for 23<\/strong> crops.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>7 cereals<\/strong> (Bajra, wheat, maize, paddy barley, ragi and jowar);<\/li>\n<li><strong>5 pulses<\/strong> (tur, chana, Masur, urad and moong);<\/li>\n<li><strong>7 oilseeds<\/strong> (sunflower, mustard, niger seed, soya bean, groundnut, sesame and sunflower);<\/li>\n<li><strong>4 commercial crops<\/strong> (raw jute, cotton, copra and sugarcane).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How does the Government decide on the MSP?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Government announces the MSP at the start of each cropping season (Rabi and Kharif).<\/li>\n<li>The MSP is decided after the Government exhaustively studies the recommendations made by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).<\/li>\n<li>CACP is an attached office of the <strong>Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Commission for Agricultural Costs &amp; Prices?<\/h3>\n<p>The Commission for Agricultural Costs &amp; Prices (CACP) is an attached office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. It came into existence in January 1965. Currently, the Commission comprises a Chairman, Member Secretary, one Member (Official) and two Members (Non-Official).
