{"id":6587,"date":"2024-12-04T05:01:28","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T23:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6587"},"modified":"2025-03-27T15:45:45","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T10:15:45","slug":"aravalli-green-wall-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aravalli-green-wall-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Aravalli Green Wall Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Aravalli Green Wall Project:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The project is a major initiative to green the 5 <strong>km buffer area around Aravalli Hill.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is part of the Union Environment Ministry&#8217;s vision to <strong>create green corridors across<\/strong> the country to combat land degradation and desertification.<\/li>\n<li>The project <strong>covers the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi<\/strong> &#8211; where the Aravalli hills landscape span over 6 million hectares of land.<\/li>\n<li>The project will involve <strong>planting native species of trees and shrubs on scrubland<\/strong>, wasteland and degraded forest land, along with rejuvenating and restoring surface water bodies such as ponds, lakes and streams.<\/li>\n<li>The project will also focus on <strong>agroforestry and pasture development<\/strong> to enhance the livelihoods of local communities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Improving the ecological health of the Aravalli range.<\/li>\n<li>To <strong>prevent eastward expansion of Thar Desert<\/strong> and to reduce land degradation by creating green barriers that will prevent soil erosion, desertification and dust storms<\/li>\n<li>It will help in <strong>carbon sequestration and mitigating climate<\/strong> change to enhance the biodiversity and ecosystem services of the Aravalli range by planting native tree species in the Aravalli region, providing habitat for wildlife, improving water quality and quantity.<\/li>\n<li>Promote <strong>sustainable development and livelihood opportunities<\/strong> by involving local communities in afforestation, agro-forestry and water conservation activities that will generate income, employment, food security and social benefits.<\/li>\n<li>It will contribute to India&#8217;s commitments under various international conventions <strong>such as UNCCD<\/strong> (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification), <strong>CBD <\/strong>(Convention on Biological Diversity) and <strong>UNFCCC<\/strong> (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: Where is Aravalli Range?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a mountain range located in northwestern India. It is one of the oldest fold mountains in the world.
