{"id":65994,"date":"2025-10-01T14:56:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T09:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=65994"},"modified":"2025-10-01T14:56:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T09:26:06","slug":"ncrb-data-on-crime-against-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ncrb-data-on-crime-against-children\/","title":{"rendered":"NCRB Data on Crime Against Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>NCRB Data on Crime Against Children Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of 1,77,335 cases of crime against children were registered in the country in 2023, showing an increase of 9.2% over 2022, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About NCRB Data on Crime Against Children<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of <\/span><b>177,335 cases of crime against children<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were registered in the country <\/span><b>in 2023,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> showing an <\/span><b>increase of 9.2% over 2022.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> crime rate <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 2023 stood at <\/span><b>39.9 per one-lakh child<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> population in comparison to 36.6 in 2022.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In percentage terms, major crime heads under \u201cCrime Against Children\u201d in 2023 were <\/span><b>\u201cKidnapping and Abduction of Children\u201d (79,884 cases, 45%) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and \u201c<\/span><b>Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act\u201d (67,694 cases, 38.2%).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These figures include <\/span><b>40,434 cases of penetrative sexual assault<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, affecting 4<\/span><b>0,846 victims. Aggravated assaults and harassment <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">followed with<\/span><b> 22,444 cases.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Of the 40,434 cases<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the<\/span><b> offenders were known to the victims in 39,076,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which included family members in 3,224 cases, family friends or neighbours or employers or other known persons in 15,146 cases, and friends or online friends or live-in partners on the pretext of marriage in 20,706 cases.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Victim demographics show that 762 victims were aged below six years, 3,229 aged between six and 12 years, 15,444 aged between 12 and 16 years and 21,411 aged between 16 and 18 years, bringing the total number of child victims to 40,846.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Most were girls in rape-related sections.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Kidnapping and abduction <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">emerged as the <\/span><b>largest contributor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with 79,884 IPC cases reported, victimising 82,106 children at a rate of 18 per one lakh.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over <\/span><b>58,927 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of these were <\/span><b>general abductions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including <\/span><b>37,844 instances where the missing children were deemed kidnapped.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, 14,637 cases involved abducting minor girls to compel marriage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other significant IPC crimes included <\/span><b>1,219 murders,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 89 linked to rape or POCSO violations; 3,050 simple hurt cases; and 373 cases of abetment to suicide.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Special and local laws beyond the POCSO Act added to the tally, with <\/span><b>6,038 cases under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and 1,390 under the Child Labour Act.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regionally, <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh topped the list<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 22,393 total cases, <\/span><b>followed by Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assam reported a sharp spike of 10,174 cases , while Bihar saw 9,906 cases.
