text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of<\/span><b> 4,64,029 road accidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> took place in the country <\/span><b>in 2023,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 17,261 more than in 2022.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>More than 1.73 lakh people were killed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>4.47 lakh injured<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in road accidents across the country in 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The highest number of <\/span><b>accidents (20.7% of total) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were reported <\/span><b>between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 3 pm to 6 pm and 12 noon to 3 pm accounted for 17.3 percent and 15 percent , respectively.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Two-wheelers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> accounted for the<\/span><b> highest number of fatal road accidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, causing 79,533 deaths, or <\/span><b>45.8% of total deaths<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>followed by pedestrians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at 27,586 (<\/span><b>15.9%) and SUV\/car\/jeep at 24,776 (14.3%).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Most of the deaths in two-wheeler accidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were reported in <\/span><b>Tamil Nadu (11,490) and Uttar Pradesh (8,370).\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A large number of<\/span><b> deaths due to SUV\/car\/jeep accidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were reported in <\/span><b>Uttar Pradesh (19.2% of total )<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a large number of <\/span><b>deaths due to trucks\/lorries\/mini truck accidents were also reported in the State (29.9% of total).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generally road accidents have caused more injuries than deaths, but <\/span><b>in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, Punjab, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>road accidents caused more deaths compared to persons injured.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Cause-Wise Analysis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Fatal Road Accidents:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>58.6% (1,01,841) and 23.6% (41,035) of fatalities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were <\/span><b>due to speeding and dangerous\/careless driving or overtaking, respectively.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poor weather conditions, driving under influence of drug\/alcohol, and animal crossings caused 4,952 deaths.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> highest number of deaths<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were reported <\/span><b>on the National Highways<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> accounting for <\/span><b>34.6%, followed by State Highways at 23.4%.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State\/UT-wise patterns revealed that maximum <\/span><b>fatalities in road accidents on<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>National Highways took<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> place in<\/span><b> Uttar Pradesh, followed by Tamil Nadu,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh during 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Of the 69,910 traffic accidents <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that were reported <\/span><b>in the megacities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> throughout the year,<\/span><b> 5,715 occurred in Delhi,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> making up<\/span><b> 8.2% of the total.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Bengaluru and Chennai <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were ranked <\/span><b>second and third<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the list, with 4,980 and 3,653 road crashes each.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With 1,457 fatalities, <\/span><b>Delhi <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had the <\/span><b>highest number of deaths in the same year. <\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
