Farmers\u2019 Welfare, and Rural Development recently announced that the Cabinet has approved the \u2018National Pulses Mission\u2019 and simultaneously increased the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for rabi crops.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Pulses Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>&#8220;Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; is a <\/span><b>six-year central scheme <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aimed at <\/span><b>achieving self-sufficiency in pulses production,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a financial outlay of <\/span><b>\u20b911,440 crore.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be for the period from <\/span><b>2025-26 to 2030-31.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Pulses Mission <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the mission, the Government has set a <\/span><b>target <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>increase pulses production to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030-32 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from 242 lakh tonnes achieved in 2023-24.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>area under pulses cultivation will be expanded to 310 lakh hectares<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 242 lakh hectares, while <\/span><b>yield is targeted to improve to 1,130 kg per hectare <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from 881 kg per hectare.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission will be implemented through a <\/span><b>cluster-based approach across 416 focused districts.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About <\/span><b>1,000 new packaging and processing units <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be set up, with a <\/span><b>maximum subsidy of Rs 25 lakh <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">available <\/span><b>for establishing processing and packaging facilities.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To improve productivity, the emphasis will be on<\/span><b> developing and disseminating the latest varieties of pulses <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that are high in productivity, pest-resistant and climate-resilient.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Multi-location trials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be conducted in major pulse-growing states to ensure regional suitability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government will <\/span><b>distribute 126 lakh quintals of certified seeds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to pulse-growing farmers, covering 370 lakh hectares by 2030-31.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>States will prepare five-year rolling seed production plans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with <\/span><b>breeder seed production supervised by the I<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ndian Council of Agricultural Research<\/span><b> (ICAR).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foundation and<\/span><b> certified seed production<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be <\/span><b>undertaken by state and central-level agencies <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>tracked through the Seed Authentication, Traceability &amp;amp; Holistic Inventory <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sathi-portal\/\" target=\"_blank\">(SATHI) portal<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, <\/span><b>88 lakh seed kits will be distributed free of cost to farmers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to support area expansion by an additional 35 lakh hectares, targeting rice fallow areas and promoting intercropping and crop diversification.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission will <\/span><b>particularly focus on increasing production of tur, urad, and masur.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A major feature of the mission is the <\/span><b>assured procurement of tur, urad and masur under the Price Support Scheme (PSS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA). <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
