{"id":66745,"date":"2025-10-06T12:41:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T07:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=66745"},"modified":"2025-10-06T15:14:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T09:44:48","slug":"chlorophytum-vanapushpam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/chlorophytum-vanapushpam\/","title":{"rendered":"Chlorophytum Vanapushpam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Chlorophytum Vanapushpam\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers during a field exploration in Idukki district\u2019s Vagamon hills have identified a new species of the genus Chlorophytum and named the new species as Chlorophytum vanapushpam.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Chlorophytum Vanapushpam<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>perennial herb<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> belonging to the <\/span><b>genus Chlorophytum <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(family Asparagaceae).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>is a close relative of the safed musli.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been found in the rocky hills of Vagamon and Neymakkad &#8211; parts of the <\/span><b>Western Ghats regions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Idukki district &#8211; at <\/span><b>elevations between 700 m and 2124 m.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The species <\/span><b>name vanapushpam <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a composite of \u2018Vanam\u2019 and \u2018Pushpam,\u2019 the Malayalam for forest and flower respectively.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Features of Chlorophytum vanapushpam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>white flowers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in small clusters and slender leaves and grows <\/span><b>up to 90 cm in height.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But unlike its more famous cousin Chlorophytum borivilianum, Chlorophytum vanapushpam lacks tubers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its seeds are <\/span><b>about 4 to 5 mm across<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
