


{"id":6699,"date":"2023-03-27T10:35:51","date_gmt":"2023-03-27T05:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6699"},"modified":"2025-03-27T16:28:05","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T10:58:05","slug":"water-and-heritage-shield-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/water-and-heritage-shield-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Water and Heritage Shield Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The purpose of the Shield is to help the public become aware of the significance of <strong>water and indigenous sacred sites<\/strong> all over the world and the right to cultural and historical memory.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>S\u00edp\u00e0apu is a rocky dome made<\/strong> of limestone as well as a spring located on the Little <strong>Colorado river<\/strong>, a tributary of Colorado.<\/li>\n<li>Little Colorado joins the main stem of the river within the Grand Canyon, a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The ancestors of the Hopi dwelled throughout the Grand Canyon before the 1250 Common Era.<\/li>\n<li>Little Colorado, especially the confluence, is sacred not only to the Hopi but also to other Native American groups such as the Navajo and Zuni.<\/li>\n<li>The Hopi consider the S\u00edp\u00e0apu to be the place from where their ancestors emerged from another world into this one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>About International Committee On Monuments and Sites:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a global <strong>non-governmental organization<\/strong> associated with <strong>UNESCO.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Its mission is to promote the conservation, protection, use and enhancement of monuments, building complexes and sites.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>an Advisory Body<\/strong> of the <strong>World Heritage Committee<\/strong> for the implementation of the World Heritage Convention of UNESCO.<\/li>\n<li>As such, <strong>it reviews the nominations<\/strong> of cultural world heritage and ensures the conservation status of properties.<\/li>\n<li>It also contributed to a series of resource manuals jointly prepared by the Advisory Bodies (ICOMOS, IUCN and ICCROM) and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Who are the Hopi Tribal people?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Hopi are known as one of the oldest living cultures in documented history, having migrated north to Arizona in the 12th century.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a canyon?<\/h3>\n<p>A canyon is a narrow, deep valley cut by a river through rock.
