


{"id":6763,"date":"2026-04-19T14:12:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T08:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6763"},"modified":"2026-04-19T17:56:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T12:26:15","slug":"amchang-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/amchang-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gauhati High Court recently directed the Assam govt to respond to a petition alleging that the forest department floated an e-tender for felling trees in Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary without obtaining mandatory forest clearance from the central govt.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the <\/span><b>eastern fringe of Guwahati <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">city in <\/span><b>Assam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary was formed by merging three reserve forest areas: South Amchang Reserve Forest, Amchang Reserve Forest, and Khanapara Reserve Forest.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>stretches from the Brahmaputra River in the north to the hilly forests of Meghalaya in the south<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, forming a continuous forest belt through Meghalaya\u2019s Maradakdola Reserve Forests.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><b> Khasi Hill Sal Forests, East Himalayan Mixed Deciduous Forest, Eastern Alluvial Secondary Semi-evergreen Forests,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>East Himalayan Sal Forests.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The forest is <\/span><b>dominated by teak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>white iris, axle wood,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> terminalia, wild java plum, elephant rope tree, beechwood, bitter champa, black dammer tree, cluster fig, and arjun trees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the mammals found here are <\/span><b>Asian elephants, leopards, fishing cat,<\/b> <b>Asian palm civet,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tadpole, different species of monkeys, gaur or Indian bison, sambar, barking deer, porcupines, mongooses, wild pigs, rabbit, <\/span><b>flying squirrel, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and otter.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It shelters both resident and migratory birds such a jungle fowl, doves, egrets, teals, partridges, woodpeckers, hornbills, kingfishers, bulbuls, and many others.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Tree yellow butterflie<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s (gancana harina) are also found at the Amchang wildlife sanctuary.
