tribal community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group, has achieved a literacy rate of over 72 per cent.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Siddi Tribal Community<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Siddi community is an <\/span><b>Indo-African tribal community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that descended from the <\/span><b>Bantu community of Africa.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Origin:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is believed that they first came to India in the <\/span><b>7th century with Arab merchants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in the <\/span><b>16th century with the Portuguese<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>British<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, largely as slaves, servants, blacksmiths, carpenters and masons.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In the present day, the majority of them are found in the west and southwest of India, <\/span><b>in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana states.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Present Status:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In India, the Union government on January 8, 2003, classified Siddis under the list of <\/span><b>Scheduled Tribes.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They are included in the Centre\u2019s list of <\/span><b>Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Occupation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Traditional dependence on <\/span><b>agriculture, forest produce<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and manual labor<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Language: They <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speak either <\/span><b>Konkani, Urdu or Marathi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as their main language.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Culture: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They
