


{"id":68832,"date":"2025-10-14T12:25:02","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T06:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=68832"},"modified":"2025-10-14T14:53:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T09:23:09","slug":"number-of-births-and-deaths-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/number-of-births-and-deaths-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Number of Births and Deaths in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Number of Births and Deaths in India Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India registered 2.52 crore births in 2023, around 2.32 lakh fewer than in 2022, the Vital Statistics of India based on Civil Registration System (CRS) report for the year 2023 shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Number of Births and Deaths in India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India registered <\/span><b>2.52 crore births in 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, around <\/span><b>2.32 lakh fewer than in 2022,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> according to the <\/span><b>Vital Statistics of India based on the Civil Registration System (CRS) report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the year 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report, <\/span><b>compiled by the Registrar General of India (RGI)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stated that <\/span><b>86.6 lakh deaths <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were registered <\/span><b>in 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>marginal increase from 86.5 lakh deaths in 2022.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was<\/span><b> no major spike in deaths in 2022 and 2023, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">despite the COVID-19 dashboard maintained by the Health Ministry showing that the total number of pandemic-induced deaths stood at 533,665 as on May 5, 2025.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, there was a <\/span><b>significant rise in deaths in 2021, the second year of COVID-19 lockdown<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which recorded an <\/span><b>excess of 21 lakh deaths from the 2020 count.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were 81.2 lakh deaths in 2020 and 102.2 lakh in 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Jharkhand <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recorded the <\/span><b>lowest sex ratio at birth at 899,<\/b> <b>followed by Bihar at 900,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Telangana at 906, Maharashtra at 909, Gujarat at 910, Haryana at 911, and Mizoram at 911.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>highest sex ratio<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was reported by <\/span><b>Arunachal Pradesh at 1,085, followed by Nagaland <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at 1,007, <\/span><b>Goa <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at 973,<\/span><b> Ladakh and Tripura<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at 972, and <\/span><b>Kerala <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at 967.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The share of <\/span><b>institutional births<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in total registered births is <\/span><b>74. % in 2023.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> However, the report did not include information from Sikkim.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Overall registration of births<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the year<\/span><b> 2023 stood at 98.4%.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>11 States\/Union Territories (UTs)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> achieved <\/span><b>more than 90% registration of births within the prescribed time limit of 21 days.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These States are Gujarat, Puducherry, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman &amp; Diu, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, and Punjab.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Five States<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Odisha, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh \u2014 reported <\/span><b>80-90% registration.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>14 States <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Assam, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jammu &amp;
