{"id":69104,"date":"2026-04-18T13:28:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T07:58:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=69104"},"modified":"2026-04-18T14:53:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T09:23:23","slug":"astra-mark-2-missile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/astra-mark-2-missile\/","title":{"rendered":"Astra Mark 2 Missile"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Astra Mk2 Missile Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is planning to equip Mirage 2000 jets with Astra Mk2 missiles, enabling long-range interception up to 240 km and strengthening aerial dominance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Astra Mk2 Missile<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is being developed by the <\/span><b>Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to various laboratories of DRDO, <\/span><b>more than 50 public and private industries, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have <\/span><b>contributed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">towards successful realisation of the weapon system.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Astra Mark-1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> air-to-air missile with a <\/span><b>strike range of around 90-100 kms <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is<\/span><b> already in the Indian Air Force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is already integrated with the LCA Tejas and the Su-30 MKI fighter jets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Astra Mark 2 would give the Indian Air Force an edge over the adversaries in air-to-air combat and can also be offered as an export product to friendly foreign countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Astra Mk2 Missile <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the Astra Mark-1 is a single-pulse, smokeless solid-fueled motor, the Astra Mark-2 <\/span><b>uses a dual-pulse solid rocket motor for extended reach and better kinematics during the kill phase.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Astra Mk-1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is 3.6 m (12 ft) long with a diameter of 178 mm (7.0 in) and weighs 154 kg with a <\/span><b>maximum range of 110 km<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><b> The Astra Mark 2 will be a bigger missile <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a diameter of 190 mm and weigh close to 175 kg.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Range: 200\u2013240 km<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (high altitude conditions)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Astra Mk-2 will use the <\/span><b>indigenous seeker manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This <\/span><b>seeker is equipped with electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enhancing its ability to resist jamming and electronic warfare tactics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another critical feature is the<\/span><b> two-way datalink<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that <\/span><b>enables mid-course updates. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This allows the missile to<\/span><b> receive real-time guidance corrections <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the launch platform or other assets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/indianmasterminds.com\/news\/mirage-2000-astra-mk2-integration-india-198599\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IMM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Astra Mk2 Missile is a Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
