


{"id":6913,"date":"2023-04-01T04:28:58","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T22:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6913"},"modified":"2025-03-28T15:48:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T10:18:56","slug":"what-is-the-export-promotion-capital-goods-epcg-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-export-promotion-capital-goods-epcg-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) Scheme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) Scheme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>trade promotion scheme<\/strong> implemented by the Indian government.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>allows the duty-free import of capital goods<\/strong> <strong>for the purpose of export production<\/strong> in India.<\/li>\n<li>It was first operationalized on <strong>1 April 2015.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: To <strong>encourage the production of goods for export<\/strong> by providing import duty concessions on capital goods.<\/li>\n<li>The EPCG scheme is <strong>administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade<\/strong> (DGFT) and is <strong>governed by the Foreign Trade Policy of India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>EPCG Scheme <strong>allows import of capital goods<\/strong> for pre-production, production and post-production <strong>at zero customs duty.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>covers manufacturer exporters<\/strong> with or without supporting manufacturer(s), <strong>merchant exporters tied to supporting manufacturer<\/strong>(s) and <strong>service providers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Second-hand goods <\/strong>of any nature <strong>will not be permitted<\/strong> under the EPCG scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is the PM MITRA Scheme?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It will <strong>offer the opportunity to create an Integrated Textiles Value Chain, <\/strong>right from spinning, weaving, processing\/dyeing and printing to garment manufacturing etc., at one location and will <strong>reduce the logistics cost of the Industry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>PM MITRA Parks will help in creating <strong>world-class industrial infrastructure<\/strong> that would attract large-scale investment, including <strong>foreign direct investment (FDI)<\/strong> and encourage innovation and job creation within the sector.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Special Purpose Vehicle<\/strong> owned by the Centre and State Government <strong>will be set up for each park<\/strong> which will <strong>oversee the implementation<\/strong> of the project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Ministry of Textiles will provide financial support<\/strong> in the form of Development Capital Support up to Rs. 500 crores per park to the Park SPV.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>Competitive Incentive Support (CIS)<\/strong> of <strong>up to Rs 300 crore per<\/strong> <strong>park to the units<\/strong> in PM MITRA Park shall also be provided to incentivise speedy implementation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>State governments<\/strong> <strong>will provide<\/strong> a contiguous and encumbrance-<strong>free land<\/strong> parcel <strong>of at least 1000 acres <\/strong>of land.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)?<\/h3>\n<p>This Directorate, with headquarters at New Delhi, is responsible for formulating and implementing the Foreign Trade Policy with the main objective of promoting India&#8217;s exports.
