{"id":6932,"date":"2026-04-18T11:40:43","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T06:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6932"},"modified":"2026-04-18T12:54:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T07:24:28","slug":"petroleum-and-natural-gas-regulatory-board-pngrb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/petroleum-and-natural-gas-regulatory-board-pngrb\/","title":{"rendered":"Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) recently initiated the bidding process for the development of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) pipeline infrastructure to eliminate bulk movement to the extent possible. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> statutory body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established under the <\/span><b>Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act 2006.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: To <\/span><b>protect the interests of consumers and entities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> engaged in specified activities <\/span><b>relating to petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and to <\/span><b>promote competitive markets <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has also been mandated to <\/span><b>regulate <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>refining, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing, and sale<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas, excluding the production of crude oil and natural gas,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so as to ensure an uninterrupted and adequate supply of petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas in all parts of the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PNGRB <\/span><b>authorises <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>city gas distribution (CGD) networks, natural gas and petroleum product pipelines, determines tariffs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>lays down the technical and safety standards, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Entities required to comply with PNGRB regulations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Natural Gas Pipelines &amp; Petroleum Product Pipelines.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">City Gas Distribution <\/span><b>(CGD) networks.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage, transportation, and regasification.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Petroleum and gas marketing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Refineries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>storage terminals.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Board has<\/span><b> its seat in Delhi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board consists of the following <\/span><b>members appointed by the Central Government:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chairperson<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Member (Legal)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three other members<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Power of the Board: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under Section 12 of the Act, certain powers are given to the PNGRB to deal with the complaints and resolve disputes among the entities.
