{"id":6996,"date":"2026-02-02T11:31:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T06:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6996"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:51:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T11:21:09","slug":"carbon-capture-utilisation-and-storage-ccus-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/carbon-capture-utilisation-and-storage-ccus-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Finance Minister proposed an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore over the next five years in Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a suite of technologies that enable the <\/span><b>mitigation of carbon dioxide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CO2) emissions from large point sources such as <\/span><b>power plants, refineries and other industrial facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or the removal of existing CO2 from the atmosphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Working of Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage:<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of three stages: <\/span><b>capture, transport and storage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (or usage) of CO2.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Capturing methods:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The main methods for capturing CO2 are: post-combustion; pre-combustion; and oxy-fuel combustion.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Post-combustion technology<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It <\/span><b>separates CO2 from the flue gas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by using a chemical solvent for instance, after the fuel is burnt.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Pre-combustion methods:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It involves <\/span><b>converting the fuel into a gas mixture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> consisting of hydrogen and CO2 before it is burnt.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Oxy-fuel Combustion: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxy-fuel technology involves <\/span><b>burning a fuel with almost pure oxygen to produce CO2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and steam, with the released CO2 subsequently captured.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CCUS can play a strategic role in global decarbonisation efforts in a number of ways.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Reducing emissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in \u2018hard-to-abate\u2019 industries<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Producing low-carbon electricity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and hydrogen, this can be used to decarbonise various activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Removing existing CO2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the atmosphere<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/explained-climate\/union-budget-20000-cr-carbon-capture-ccus-10506924\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage is a suite of technologies that enable the mitigation of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from large point sources such as power plants.
