{"id":70091,"date":"2025-10-25T12:12:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T06:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=70091"},"modified":"2025-10-25T12:12:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T06:42:14","slug":"international-convention-against-doping-in-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-convention-against-doping-in-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"International Convention against Doping in Sport"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>International Convention against Doping in Sport Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has been re-elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Bureau for the Asia-Pacific (Group IV) at the 10th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP10) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About International Convention against Doping in Sport<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>multilateral treaty by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which States agree to adopt national and international measures to prevent and <\/span><b>eliminate doping in sport.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Convention was adopted during the <\/span><b>33rd session of UNESCO\u2019s General Conference<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (19 October 2005) and entered into force on 1 February 2007.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It consists of <\/span><b>192 States Parties,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> making it UNESCO\u2019s second most ratified treaty.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Convention aims to harmonize <\/span><b>anti-doping legislation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, guidelines, regulations, and rules internationally in order to provide a level and safe playing environment for all athletes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Governance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>Conference of Parties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (COP) is the sovereign body of the Convention, meeting in ordinary <\/span><b>session biennially.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has overall responsibility for its <\/span><b>implementation and evolution.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of International Convention against Doping in Sport<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The convention allows governments to formally recognize the <\/span><b>World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Code.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It works under a positive implementation approach, providing guidance, financial support, skill-training and capacity-building to empower States Parties aiming to enhance their implementation of the Convention.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also provides a <\/span><b>global forum for public and private stakeholders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the sport integrity ecosystem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Funding mechanism:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Anti-Doping Fund was formed to create awareness about doping.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2181739\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Convention against Doping in Sport is a multilateral treaty by which States agree to adopt national and international measures to prevent and eliminate doping in sport.
