{"id":70091,"date":"2026-10-28T12:12:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-28T06:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=70091"},"modified":"2026-10-28T13:42:30","modified_gmt":"2026-10-28T08:12:30","slug":"international-convention-against-doping-in-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-convention-against-doping-in-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"India Re-Elected Vice-Chair of UNESCO&#8217;s International Convention against Doping in Sport"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>International Convention against Doping Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Minister of Youth Affairs &amp; Sports chaired the third formal meeting of the COP10 Bureau and the fourth formal meeting of the Fund\u2019s Approval Committee for 2026\u201327 under the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About International Convention against Doping<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>UNESCO multilateral treaty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by which States agree to adopt national and international measures to prevent and <\/span><b>eliminate doping in sport.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Convention was adopted during the 33rd session of UNESCO\u2019s General Conference (19 October 2005) and entered <\/span><b>into force on 1 February 2007.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>only legally binding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> international instrument committed to promoting integrity and <\/span><b>eliminating doping in sport globally.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It consists of <\/span><b>192 States Parties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making it UNESCO\u2019s second most ratified treaty.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India is a signatory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the International Convention Against Doping in Sport, which was ratified by India on 07 <\/span><b>November 2007.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Convention aims to <\/span><b>harmonize anti-doping legislation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, guidelines, regulations, and rules internationally in order to provide a level and safe playing environment for all athletes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Governance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>Conference of Parties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (COP) is the sovereign body of the Convention, meeting in <\/span><b>ordinary session biennially.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has overall responsibility for its <\/span><b>implementation and evolution.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of International Convention against Doping in Sport<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The convention allows governments to formally <\/span><b>recognize the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/world-anti-doping-agency-wada\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)<\/a> and the Code.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It works under a positive implementation approach, providing guidance, financial support, skill-training and capacity-building to empower States Parties aiming to enhance their implementation of the Convention.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also provides a <\/span><b>global forum for public and private stakeholders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the sport integrity ecosystem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Funding mechanism:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Anti-Doping Fund was formed to create awareness about doping.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2328940&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India was re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the Asia-Pacific Group Bureau at COP10 of UNESCO&#8217;s International Convention against Doping in Sport in October 2025.
