behind the loss of nearly 75 per cent of natural plant species on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Mount Kilimanjaro<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in <\/span><b>northeastern Tanzania,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> near the Kenya border.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is Africa\u2019s tallest mountain (5,895 m) and the <\/span><b>world\u2019s largest free-standing mountain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (which means not part of a mountain range).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It extends approximately east-west for 50 miles (80 km).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also called a <\/span><b>stratovolcano<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a term for a very large volcano made of ash, lava and rock), Kilimanjaro is made up of three cones: <\/span><b>Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among these <\/span><b>cones Kibois,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the tallest of the three volcanic formations, which is also a dormant volcano, while the other two are extinct volcanoes?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Uhuru Peak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the highest free-standing peak in Africa, is located on the volcanic cone Kibo.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kilimanjaro is also known for its <\/span><b>snow-capped peak.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The mountain has five main vegetation zones, from the lowest to the highest point: Lower slopes, montane forest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and summit.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Kilimanjaro National Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was named a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
