{"id":71504,"date":"2025-11-01T12:49:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T07:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=71504"},"modified":"2025-11-01T12:49:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T07:19:07","slug":"kunming-biodiversity-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kunming-biodiversity-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Kunming Biodiversity Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kunming Biodiversity Fund Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, seven countries have secured $5.8 million from the Kunming Biodiversity Fund to enhance nature-friendly agriculture.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kunming Biodiversity Fund<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Multi-Partner Trust Fund<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (MTPF) <\/span><b>launched in 2021<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during Part 1 of the <\/span><b>COP 15<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>Convention of Biological Diversity.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to facilitate the successful implementation of the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kunming-montreal-global-biodiversity-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(KMGBF) at regional, national, subnational and local level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Initial contribution:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 1.5 billion yuan (about $200 million) from China.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Ecology (MEE) of China and the <\/span><b>United Nations Environment Program<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (UNEP), with the Secretariat of the <\/span><b>Convention on Biological Diversity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SCBD) and <\/span><b>United Nations Development Programme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (UNDP).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Focus area:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It <\/span><b>supports developing countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to accelerate and upscale their actions for the <\/span><b>National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NBSAPs).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was adopted during the <\/span><b>15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the UN <\/span><b>Convention on Biological Diversity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in December 2022.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to support the <\/span><b>achievement of sustainable development goals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and build on previous strategic plans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It sets a bold path towards global harmony with nature by 2050.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Goals and targets:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The GBF consists of <\/span><b>23 targets (<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set for 2030) and <\/span><b>four global goals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (set for 2050) to preserve biodiversity for current and future generations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/wildlife-biodiversity\/seven-countries-secure58million-fromkunming-biodiversity-fund-to-make-agriculture-more-nature-friendly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DTE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kunming Biodiversity Fund is a Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MTPF) launched in 2021 during Part 1 of the COP 15 of Convention of Biological Diversity.
