Khangchendzonga,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>third highest peak in the world.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies entirely <\/span><b>along the Sikkim-Nepal border.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a part of the<\/span><b> Himalaya global biodiversity hotspot.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It encompasses an area covering 1784 sq.km.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It exhibits <\/span><b>one of the widest altitudinal ranges of any protected area worldwide.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The park has an <\/span><b>extraordinary vertical sweep of over 7 kilometres (1,220 m to 8,586 m).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a unique diversity of <\/span><b>plains, valleys, lakes, glaciers,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and spectacular, <\/span><b>snow-capped mountains <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">covered with ancient forests.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has, in total, <\/span><b>18 glaciers,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the largest one being <\/span><b>Zemu Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in Asia.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is one of the very few places where you will find the<\/span><b> Lepcha tribal settlements.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><b> Subtropical to alpine <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vegetation; includes <\/span><b>oak, fir, birch,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> maple, and rhododendron.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is home to important flagship species such as the <\/span><b>snow leopard, Tibetan wolf,<\/b> <b>red panda, blue sheep<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Himalayan Tahr, and mainland serow, among many.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\">It is home to nearly <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">half of India&#8217;s bird diversity.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsonair.gov.in\/khangchendzonga-national-park-rated-good-by-iucn-only-indian-site-with-positive-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NOA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Khangchendzonga National Park is located in the north of Sikkim.
