{"id":73399,"date":"2025-11-14T14:11:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T08:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=73399"},"modified":"2025-11-14T14:21:54","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T08:51:54","slug":"mudh-nyoma-airbase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mudh-nyoma-airbase\/","title":{"rendered":"Mudh-Nyoma Airbase"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Mudh-Nyoma Airbase Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh recently inaugurated the Mudh-Nyoma airbase in Ladakh by landing a C-130J special operations aircraft there.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Mudh-Nyoma Airbase<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>Indian Air Force (IAF) base<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in <\/span><b>Nyoma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in <\/span><b>southeastern Ladakh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located at a height of 13,700 feet and is <\/span><b>23 km from <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the contested L<\/span><b>ine of Actual Control (LAC) with China.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nyoma is the f<\/span><b>ourth IAF base in Ladakh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>highest airfield in the country, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the<\/span><b> fifth highest in the world now.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies<\/span><b> close to <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>southern bank of the Pangong Tso<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>earlier had a mud-paved landing ground.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>responsibility of upgrading <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the airbase was <\/span><b>entrusted to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The work began in September 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It underwent a <\/span><b>\u20b9230 crore upgrad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e, which included <\/span><b>extending the original airstrip into a 2.7 km \u2018rigid pavement\u2019 runway<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a new <\/span><b>ATC complex, hangars,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a crash bay, and accommodation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The airfield is <\/span><b>designed to house <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a number of military <\/span><b>unmanned, rotary-wing, fixed-wing aircraft, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including <\/span><b>heavier transport planes,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like the <\/span><b>C-17 Globemaster III<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>fighter jets,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like the Sukhoi-30MKI.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The infrastructure at the airbase includes necessary facilities for maintenance and sustaining air and ground crews, essential for operations in a region where winter temperatures can plummet to below minus 20\u00b0C.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/india-news\/iaf-chief-lands-c-130j-inaugurates-nyoma-airbase-in-ladakh-101762952103449.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mudh-Nyoma Airbase is an Indian Air Force (IAF) base located in Nyoma, in southeastern Ladakh.
