of the 75th anniversary of National Sample Survey (NSS) and World Statistics Day 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Industrial Classification 2025<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NIC is the<\/span><b> standardized system <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">used to <\/span><b>classify all economic activities in India for statistical surveys, censuses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (like the Annual Survey of Industries), and <\/span><b>national accounts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(GDP calculation).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>First introduced in 1962<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it has been <\/span><b>revised periodically <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in line with international standards and the changing economic landscape, leading to NIC 1970, NIC 1987, NIC 1990, NIC 1998, NIC 2004, and NIC 2008.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>NIC 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> represents the<\/span><b> latest updated national standard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for classifying economic activities in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NIC 2025 has been <\/span><b>prepared by the MoSPI <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in <\/span><b>alignment with the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) Revision 5, developed by <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD).\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The revision was carried out under the guidance of the Expert Committee for Revision of Economic Classifications (ECREC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Major Changes:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NIC 2025 introduces a <\/span><b>new 6-digit coding structure, in place of the 5-digit structure of NIC 2008.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shift to a 6-digit structure matters because it <\/span><b>provides the granularity needed to distinguish specific modern activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (e.g., distinguishing \u201cfintech\u201d from general financial services), enabling <\/span><b>more precise measurement of the digital and green economies.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The Salient Feature of NIC 2025 are:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Enhanced Classification of Intermediation Services:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> New classes have been created across multiple sections to <\/span><b>reflect the growing role of intermediaries in sectors such as power, retail, logistics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, healthcare, education, real estate, and food services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Environmental and Green Economy Integration: Expanded coverage of carbon capture, waste management, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>environmental remediation activities,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with better alignment to <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/sustainable-development-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>SDGs<\/strong><\/a> and SEEA framework.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Digital Economy Representation: Cloud infrastructure, blockchain, platform-based services, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and web search portals are <\/span><b>distinctly classified, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reflecting the evolving nature of the digital economy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Classification is technology agnostic: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In general, distinction of activities is not made based on whether an activity is carried out by means of traditional or modern production techniques.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NIC 2025 will serve as a <\/span><b>vital statistical standard for compiling and analysing economic indicators <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">across sectors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The classification will also assist in accurately identifying and reporting economic activities in a consistent and comparable manner.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2191142\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Industrial Classification 2025 will serve as a vital statistical standard for compiling and analysing economic indicators across sectors.
