{"id":74683,"date":"2025-11-23T14:33:02","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T09:03:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=74683"},"modified":"2025-11-24T16:12:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T10:42:34","slug":"juvenile-justice-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/juvenile-justice-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Juvenile Justice Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Juvenile Justice Board Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Juvenile Justice and Children in Conflict with the Law: A Study of Capacity at the Frontlines\u2019, by the India Justice Report (IJR) highlighted that more than half (55%) of the cases before 362 Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) remained pending as of October 31, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Juvenile Justice Board<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is formed under section-4 of the <\/span><b>Juvenile Justice Act, 2015<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which functions relating to <\/span><b>children in conflict with law under this Act.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It states that, the <\/span><b>state government<\/b> <b>shall constitute<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for every district, <\/span><b>one or more Juvenile Justice Boards.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Composition of Juvenile Justice Board<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A board shall consist of<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Metropolitan Magistrate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>Judicial Magistrate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of first class not being Chief Metropolitan Magistrate or<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Chief Judicial Magistrate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> referred to as Principal Magistrate with at <\/span><b>least three years\u2019 experience<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Two social workers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> selected in such a manner as may be prescribed, of whom at least one shall be a woman.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Powers of Juvenile Justice Board<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Under Section 15,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> special provisions have been made to tackle child offenders committing heinous offences in the age group of 16-18 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Juvenile Justice Board is given the option to transfer cases of heinous <\/span><b>offences by such children to a Children\u2019s Court <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Court of Session) after conducting preliminary assessment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Functions of Juvenile Justice Board<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board&#8217;s responsibility is to ensure that <\/span><b>the child\u2019s rights are protected throughout<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the process of apprehending the child, inquiry, aftercare and rehabilitation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also ensures the <\/span><b>availability of legal aid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the child through the <\/span><b>legal services institutions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The board undertakes at <\/span><b>least one inspection<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> visit <\/span><b>every month<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of residential facilities for children in conflict with law and recommends action for improvement in quality of services to the <\/span><b>District Child Protection Unit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the state government.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/more-than-50-pending-cases-before-justice-juvenile-board-jjbs-not-fully-staffed\/article70301965.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Juvenile Justice Board is formed under section-4 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 which functions relating to children in conflict with law under this Act.
