


{"id":75283,"date":"2025-11-27T13:49:44","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T08:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=75283"},"modified":"2025-11-27T15:41:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T10:11:19","slug":"scheme-to-promote-manufacturing-of-sintered-rare-earth-permanent-magnets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/scheme-to-promote-manufacturing-of-sintered-rare-earth-permanent-magnets\/","title":{"rendered":"Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the &#8216;Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets&#8217; with a financial outlay of Rs.7280 crore.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to <\/span><b>establish 6,000 Metric Tons per Annum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (MTPA) of integrated Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (REPM) <\/span><b>manufacturing in India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will support the creation of <\/span><b>integrated REPM manufacturing facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, involving conversion of rare earth oxides to metals, metals to alloys, and alloys to finished REPMs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of<\/b> <b>Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Total financial outlay:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Rs. 7,280 crore<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sales-linked incentives: Rs. 6,450 crore (5 years)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capital subsidy: Rs. 750 crore<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Capacity allocation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 6,000 MTPA to 5 beneficiaries (up to 1,200 MTPA each) via global competitive bidding process.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Duration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>7 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2 years for setting up an integrated REPM manufacturing facility + 5 years incentive disbursement on the sale of REPM.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this initiative, India will establish its <\/span><b>first ever integrated REPM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> manufacturing facilities in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>\u00a0What are Rare Earth Magnets?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are a type of <\/span><b>permanent magnet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> made from <\/span><b>alloys of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/rare-earth-elements\/\" target=\"_blank\">rare earth elements<\/a>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Properties:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Exceptional magnetic strength, <\/span><b>high energy density<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and superior performance compared to other types of magnets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Types:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Neodymium<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Nd-Fe-B) and <\/span><b>Samarium Cobalt<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SmCo) are the two most common types of rare earth magnet materials.
