{"id":75313,"date":"2026-04-27T12:15:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T06:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=75313"},"modified":"2026-04-27T13:10:58","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T07:40:58","slug":"bnei-menashe-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bnei-menashe-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Bnei Menashe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Bnei Menashe Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government of India\u2019s advisory about the security situation in Israel, amid the ongoing war in West Asia, came into focus recently when Israel airlifted around 240 individuals from Mizoram to Tel Aviv as part of Israel\u2019s \u2018Operation Wings of Dawn\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Bnei Menashe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bnei Menashe, <\/span><b>known in India as the Shinlung<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is an ethnic community that hails from the <\/span><b>northeastern states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>Mizoram and Manipur.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are a community of about <\/span><b>10,000 people from Tibeto-Burman ethnic group<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s. They <\/span><b>include members of the Chin, Kuki, and Mizo groups.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The population <\/span><b>claims to be descendants of the Biblical tribe of Manasseh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>one of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which were <\/span><b>exiled by the Assyrian Empire in 722 BC.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>Christians converted into Jews <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and observe traditional Jewish practices and celebrate holidays such as Sukkot.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a centuries-long exodus through Persia, Afghanistan, Tibet, and China, the community reached India&#8217;s northeast and settled in Manipur and Mizoram.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historians believe this community may have <\/span><b>arrived in India within the last 300\u2013500 years.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their <\/span><b>ancestors were exiled long before the Roman dispersion,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but they <\/span><b>continued to practice Judaism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the generations, even if not in a contemporary Orthodox way.<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Once they came into contact with Israel and global Jewry in the 1980<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, they <\/span><b>embraced modern Jewish <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">learning and practice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Nearly half <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the \u2018Bnei Menashe\u2019 population <\/span><b>migrated to Israel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over a period of time and became its citizens.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Operation Wings of Dawn<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Israeli government <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">launched \u2018<\/span><b>Operation Wings of Dawn\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to facilitate the <\/span><b>immigration of the remaining members of the Bnei Menashe <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">community <\/span><b>to Israel.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme includes flights, conversion classes, housing, Hebrew lessons, and other benefits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the recent Israeli Government plan, approximately 1,200 community members are expected to immigrate to Israel by the end of 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A second stage, <\/span><b>slated for completion by 2030,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will bring an <\/span><b>additional 4,600 people,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> effectively <\/span><b>completing the arrival of the entire community.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><strong>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/around-240-indians-claiming-descent-from-biblical-tribe-arrive-at-israels-tel-aviv\/article70901136.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>TH<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bnei Menashe is an ethnic community that hails from the northeastern states of Mizoram and Manipur.
