{"id":7535,"date":"2022-11-25T08:58:12","date_gmt":"2022-11-25T03:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=7535"},"modified":"2025-03-28T21:19:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T15:49:24","slug":"leiths-soft-shelled-turtle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/leiths-soft-shelled-turtle\/","title":{"rendered":"Leith\u2019s Soft-shelled Turtle"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Leith\u2019s Soft-shelled Turtle:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Leith\u2019s Softshell Turtle is a\u00a0<strong>large fresh water soft-shelled turtle which is endemic to peninsular India\u00a0<\/strong>and it inhabits rivers and reservoirs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution<\/strong>: Restricted to southern peninsular India (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, and Tamil Nadu) in the Cauvery, Thungabhadra, Ghataprabha, Bhavani, Godavari, and Moyar drainages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Threats<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The species has been subject to\u00a0<strong>intensive exploitation over the past 30 years<\/strong>. It has been poached and illegally consumed within India.
