{"id":75904,"date":"2025-12-01T12:51:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T07:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=75904"},"modified":"2025-12-01T16:29:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T10:59:15","slug":"booth-level-officer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/booth-level-officer\/","title":{"rendered":"Booth Level Officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Booth Level Officer Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, concerns have been raised with several Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deaths have been reported from the states undergoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Booth Level Officer<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A BLO is a <\/span><b>representative of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/election-commission-of-india-eci\/\" target=\"_blank\">Election Commission of India<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ECI) at the grass-root level who assists in updating the roll using his local knowledge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are local <\/span><b>government\/semi-government officials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who are familiar with the local electors and enrolled as voters in the same polling area.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers, Anganwadi workers, Panchayat Secretary, Village Level Workers, Electricity Bill Readers, etc are <\/span><b>mainly appointed as BLOs.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BLOs are <\/span><b>not full-time electoral officials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Section 13B (2)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Representation of People Act, 1950<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provision paved the way for the introduction of appointing a BLO for the <\/span><b>first time in August 2006.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Roles of Booth Level Officer<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They play a significant role in the <\/span><b>process of roll revision<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>collecting actual field<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> information with regard to the roll corresponding to the polling area assigned to them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They maintain <\/span><b>accuracy and fidelity of the electoral roll<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the polling booth level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution of Voter Slips:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> An important role of the BLO is the <\/span><b>distribution of Voter Slips<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the voters\u2019 households before the poll day.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Informing eligible voters for Postal Ballot:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> BLOs inform the eligible Electors (senior citizens above 85 years &amp; PwDs with benchmark certificate) about availing <\/span><b>Home Voting Facility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Postal Ballot Facility by filling <\/span><b>Form 12D.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Promote use of Election Commission\u2019s IT applications:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 BLOs to <\/span><b>promote applications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> launched by the ECI to facilitate voting and ensure an accurate electoral roll.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The popular voter oriented apps like <\/span><b>Voter Helpline App, eVIGIL app<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Know you candidate app, Saksham-ECI.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/upsc-current-affairs\/upsc-essentials\/knowledge-nugget-booth-level-officer-blo-sir-electorol-roll-upsc-10388887\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Booth Level Officer is a representative of the Election Commission of India (ECI) at the grass-root level who assists in updating the roll using his local knowledge.
