{"id":76337,"date":"2025-12-04T12:42:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T07:12:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=76337"},"modified":"2025-12-04T13:54:56","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T08:24:56","slug":"alaknanda-galaxy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/alaknanda-galaxy\/","title":{"rendered":"Alaknanda Galaxy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Alaknanda Galaxy Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, researchers at National Centre for Radio Astrophysics &#8211; Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCRA\u2013TIFR), Pune, have discovered a spiral galaxy and named it as Alaknanda.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Alaknanda Galaxy<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located about <\/span><b>12 billion light years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> away and has <\/span><b>textbook spiral structure.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is named after a <\/span><b>Himalayan river Alaknanda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Hindi word for the Milky Way.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The galaxy has two <\/span><b>well-defined spiral arms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> wrapping around a bright central bulge, spanning approximately 30,000 light-years in diameter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a powerhouse of stellar birth, creating stars at a rate equivalent to about 60 solar masses annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It looks remarkably <\/span><b>similar to our own Milky Way<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and formed when the Milky way was only 10 per cent of its current age.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered by using NASA\u2019s <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/james-webb-space-telescope\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Webb Space Telescope<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>\u00a0What is a Spiral Galaxy?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spiral galaxies are <\/span><b>twisted collections of stars and gas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that often have beautiful shapes and are made up of hot, young stars.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a spiral galaxy, the stars, gas, and dust are gathered in spiral arms that spread outward from the galaxy\u2019s center.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Structure<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most spiral galaxies <\/span><b>contain a central bulge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surrounded by a flat, rotating disk of stars.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bulge in the <\/span><b>center is made up<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>older, dimmer stars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is thought to contain a supermassive black hole.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approximately two-thirds of spiral galaxies also <\/span><b>contain a bar structure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through their center, as does the Milky Way.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disk of stars orbiting the bulge separates into arms that circle the galaxy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These spiral arms contain a wealth of gas and dust and younger stars that shine brightly before their quick demise.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/cities\/pune\/pune-researchers-find-spiral-galaxy-like-milky-way-from-early-universe-10399065\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Alaknanda Galaxy is located about 12 billion light years away and has textbook spiral structure.
