


{"id":7663,"date":"2022-11-10T05:07:02","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T23:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=7663"},"modified":"2025-03-28T22:07:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T16:37:15","slug":"groundwater-extraction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/groundwater-extraction\/","title":{"rendered":"Groundwater Extraction"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Groundwater Extraction:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The assessment was carried out jointly by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), States and Union Territories.<\/li>\n<li>Such joint exercises between the CGWB and States\/Union Territories were carried out earlier in 1980, 1995, 2004, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Highlights:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The total annual groundwater recharge for the entire country is 437.6 billion cubic metres (bcm) and annual groundwater extraction for the entire country is 239.16 bcm.<\/li>\n<li>Out of the total 7,089 assessment units in the country, 1,006 units have been categorised as \u201cover-exploited\u201d in the report.<\/li>\n<li>By comparison, an assessment in 2020 found that the annual groundwater recharge was 436 bcm and extraction 245 bcm.<\/li>\n<li>In 2017, recharge was 432 bcm and extraction 249 bcm.
