


{"id":7723,"date":"2024-11-13T08:33:53","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T03:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=7723"},"modified":"2025-03-28T22:30:05","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T17:00:05","slug":"gutti-koya-tribals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gutti-koya-tribals\/","title":{"rendered":"Gutti Koya Tribals"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Gotti Koya Tribe:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>They are one of the few <strong>multi-racial and multi-lingual<\/strong> tribal communities in India.<\/li>\n<li>The Koya population is concentrated in <strong>Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Language:<\/strong> They speak Koya, which is a <strong>Dravidian language. <\/strong>It is closely related to Gondi and has been strongly influenced by Telugu.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Occupation:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>They practice <strong>Podu form of shifting cultivation<\/strong>, as practiced by various tribal groups in forest areas has for long been an economic survival versus environmental sustenance issue.<\/li>\n<li>They earn a living through animal husbandry and minor forest produce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Festival:<\/strong> The most important fair celebrated by Koyas is the <strong>Sammakka Saralamma Jatra<\/strong> once in two years on full moon day of the Magha Masam (January or February) at Medaram village in Mulug taluk of Warangal district.<\/li>\n<li>They held ST status in Chattisgarh but they were not granted ST status in their migrated states such as Telangana.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Society and Culture<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>All Koya belong to one of five <strong>sub-divisions called gotrams<\/strong>. Every Koya is born into a clan, and he cannot leave it.<\/li>\n<li>The Koyas have a <strong>patrilineal and patrilocal family<\/strong>. The family is called &#8220;Kutum&#8221;. The nuclear family is the predominant type.<\/li>\n<li>Monogamy is prevalent among the Koya<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara?<\/h3>\n<p>It is also known as Medaram Jatara.
