{"id":7763,"date":"2022-11-11T03:43:36","date_gmt":"2022-11-10T22:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=7763"},"modified":"2025-03-28T22:44:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T17:14:48","slug":"new-tv-broadcast-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/new-tv-broadcast-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"New TV broadcast Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About New TV broadcast Guidelines:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the new guidelines have been amended after a gap of 11 years, and a number of steps have been taken for ease of doing business, as there are more than 870 channels operating in the country now.<\/li>\n<li>It is obligatory under the guidelines for all TV channels, including private channels, to \u201cundertake\u00a0<strong>public service broadcasting for a minimum period of 30 minutes in a day on themes of national importance and of social relevance\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Themes:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The guidelines have identified\u00a0<strong>eight \u201cthemes of national importance and of social relevance\u201d:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>education and spread of literacy;<\/li>\n<li>agriculture and rural development;<\/li>\n<li>health and family welfare;<\/li>\n<li>science and technology;<\/li>\n<li>welfare of women;<\/li>\n<li>welfare of the weaker sections of the society;<\/li>\n<li>protection of environment and of cultural heritage; and<\/li>\n<li>national integration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Compliance:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the guidelines are implemented, the Ministry will monitor the channels for the broadcast of this content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Exemption:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The exemption may apply to wildlife channels and foreign channels, besides live telecasts in the case of sports channels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Other provisions:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The policy mandates that channels uplinking in frequency bands other than C-band must encrypt their signals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uplinking and downlinking \u201cshall be subject to clearance and approval by the Ministry of Home Affairs<\/strong>, and wherever considered necessary, of other authorities\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The new guidelines\u00a0<strong>allow a news agency to get permission for five years instead of the current one year.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>penalty clauses have been rationalised<\/strong>, and separate sets of penalties have been proposed for different types of contraventions as against the\u00a0<strong>uniform penalty that is applicable currently.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The new policy eases compliance for TV channels in various areas.
