text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>ancient Sanskrit treatise on performing arts.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>title <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a combination of two Sanskrit words \u2013 <\/span><b>Natya and Shastra.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Natya <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">refers to the technique<\/span><b> of dance and drama<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>shastra <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">refers to <\/span><b>science.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>composed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the sage<\/span><b> Bharata Muni.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been dated to between the <\/span><b>second century BCE and the second century CE.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>earliest known treatise on performative arts in South Asia.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its primary importance lies in its justification of Indian drama as a vehicle of religious enlightenment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It comprises around 36,000 verses <\/span><b>detailing drama (natya), performance (abhinaya)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>music (sangita), emotions (bhava),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>aesthetic experience (rasa).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the text&#8217;s most profound contributions is the articulation of the <\/span><b>concept of Rasa, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the essential emotional essence that lies at the heart of any great work of art.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bharata Muni<\/span><b> identified eight primary Rasas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; <\/span><b>Shringara (love), Hasya (humor), Karuna (compassion), Raudra (anger), Veera (heroism), Bhayanaka (fear), Bibhatsa (disgust), and Adbhuta (wonder).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also <\/span><b>explained how the skilled performer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, through the skillful deployment of bhava (emotional expression), <\/span><b>could evoke these sentiments in the audience.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>UNESCO added Natyashastr<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a to its <\/span><b>Memory of the World Register<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, recognizing its global cultural significance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Facts about Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established as an <\/span><b>autonomous body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the Government of India, under the<\/span><b> Ministry of Culture.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
