{"id":78317,"date":"2025-12-17T12:35:48","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T07:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=78317"},"modified":"2025-12-17T15:32:31","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T10:02:31","slug":"narpuh-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/narpuh-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, scientists warned that Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary is undergoing conservation challenges particularly from limestone mining and cement factories.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is situated in East Jantia Hills in <\/span><b>Jowai, Meghalaya.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2014<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is the only protected area in the Jaintia Hills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sanctuary is <\/span><b>bounded by Reserve Forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on all sides except a part in South West which shares a boundary with the State<\/span><b> of Assam.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rivers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The northern part of the sanctuary is bounded by <\/span><b>Lukha River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forming a physical barrier.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is prone to <\/span><b>extremely heavy rainfall<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, averaging more than 6,000 mm, from the <\/span><b>southwest monsoon.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its climate is favorable for the propagation and sustenance of a rich and wide variety of wild, endangered Flora and Fauna.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Some of the tallest <\/span><b>evergreen and semi-evergreen forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remaining in Meghalaya are found in this region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Hoolock Gibbon, Serow, Slow Loris, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sloth-bear\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sloth Bear<\/a><\/strong>, Large Indian Civet, Leopard Cat, Clouded Leopard, Barking Deer etc are found here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora :<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Castanopsis indica, C. tribuloides, Dysoxylum Sp., Elaeocarpus Sp., Engelhardtia spicata, Syzygium Sp.
