{"id":7836,"date":"2022-11-13T10:48:36","date_gmt":"2022-11-13T05:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=7836"},"modified":"2025-09-17T18:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T12:38:11","slug":"monkeypox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/monkeypox\/","title":{"rendered":"Monkeypox"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Mpox Latest News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The scientific community is divided on whether mpox should be given the label of a sexually transmitted disease (STD), with targeted public health interventions to contain it.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Mpox<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mpox, previously known as <strong>monkeypox<\/strong>, is a <strong>zoonotic viral illness<\/strong> caused by the <strong>monkeypox virus,<\/strong> a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus.<\/li>\n<li>Mpox is characterized by <strong>rash or skin lesions <\/strong>that are usually concentrated <strong>on the face, palms of the hands<\/strong>, and soles of the <strong>feet<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>first human case <\/strong>of mpox was recorded in 1<strong>970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Subtypes of Mpox<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Clade I:<\/strong> It is endemic to <strong>Central Africa.<\/strong> It tends to cause <strong>more serious<\/strong> illness than clade II. Recent outbreaks of clade I have been less deadly.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clade II:<\/strong> It is endemic to <strong>East Africa.<\/strong> There\u2019s been a global outbreak of clade II mpox since 2022.
