


{"id":78464,"date":"2025-12-18T12:18:41","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T06:48:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=78464"},"modified":"2025-12-20T13:31:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T08:01:18","slug":"annatto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/annatto\/","title":{"rendered":"Annatto"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Annatto Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As informed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the CSIR\u2013Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR\u2013CFTRI), Mysuru had undertaken four Grant-in-Aid projects related to the study and development of annatto.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Annatto<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>natural food colouring and flavoring agent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> obtained from the <\/span><b>seeds of the achiote tree <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Bixa orellana), <\/span><b>native to the tropical regions of the Americas.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About<\/span><b> 70% of natural food colors come from annatto.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It adds a<\/span><b> yellow-orange color to foods <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like cheese, butter, yogurt, sausage, smoked fish, ice cream, and baked goods.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bold color comes from carotenoids, which are plant pigments that are found in the coating of the seed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is most <\/span><b>often ground up into a powder or paste<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> form for use.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>color can also be extracted <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the seed and then <\/span><b>added to foods as a dye.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some also use annatto to <\/span><b>boost the flavor of certain dishes.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a <\/span><b>mild, peppery flavor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when used in large amounts as well as a <\/span><b>nutty and floral scent.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>safe for most people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when used in normal food amounts.
