uncertainty persists over a US trade deal.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deal gains added significance as negotiations with the broader Gulf Cooperation Council stalled, making Oman the second GCC member, after the UAE, to conclude a trade agreement with India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Strategic Context of the CEPA<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oman\u2019s first FTA in nearly two decades.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s second comprehensive Gulf FTA, after the UAE (2022).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s <\/span><b>sixth free trade pact<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the past five years, following deals with Mauritius, the UAE, Australia, the EFTA bloc and the UK.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bilateral trade at around $10.5 billion, dominated by energy imports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agreement focuses on durable economic integration, not short-term trade spikes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>India\u2013Oman CEPA: Key Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, India and Oman signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), in Muscat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under this agreement, Oman will grant duty-free access on <\/span><b>98.08% of tariff lines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, covering <\/span><b>99.38% of India\u2019s exports to Oman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India will liberalise tariffs on 77.79% of its tariff lines, covering 94.81% of imports from Oman.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oman\u2019s strategic location positions it as a hub for: Wider GCC markets; Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Africa.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oman already has <\/span><b>duty-free access to the US<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under its FTA, enhancing indirect opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Market Access and Tariff Liberalisation<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>For Indian aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oman, though smaller and less diversified than the UAE, holds strategic importance for India as a trade hub connecting West Asia and Africa.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With annual imports of about $40 billion, Oman relies heavily on imported machinery in 2024-25.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Export Opportunities for India<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian exports to Oman have doubled over the past five years.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key exports include machinery and parts, aircraft, rice, iron and steel articles, beauty and personal care products, ceramics, and petroleum products such as naphtha and petrol.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero-duty access on 98% of Oman\u2019s tariff lines under the CEPA is expected to boost competitiveness, especially for industrial goods, though sustained growth will depend on quality upgrades and product differentiation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Oman\u2019s Trade Profile and Energy Linkages<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oman\u2019s main exports include crude oil, LNG, fertilisers, and chemical inputs like methanol and anhydrous ammonia\u2014critical for India\u2019s energy and industrial sectors and already subject to low tariffs under existing FTAs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oman also has a US FTA (since 2009), enabling duty-free access for many products into the American market.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Services Trade and Professional Mobility<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India stands to gain significantly in services.
