{"id":78804,"date":"2025-12-20T12:14:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T06:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=78804"},"modified":"2025-12-20T13:27:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T07:57:10","slug":"bureau-of-port-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bureau-of-port-security\/","title":{"rendered":"Bureau of Port Security"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Bureau of Port Security Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the union Home Minister convened a meeting for the constitution of a dedicated body, the Bureau of Port Security (BoPS), for the security of vessels and port facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Bureau of Port Security<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It shall be <\/span><b>constituted as a statutory body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the provisions of Section 13 of the <\/span><b>Merchant Shipping Act, 2025.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is headed by a <\/span><b>Director General,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shall function under the aegis of <\/span><b>the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW)<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He \/she shall be responsible for <\/span><b>regulatory and oversight functions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> relating to the security of ships and port facilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is being modelled on the lines of the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-bureau-of-civil-aviation-security-bcas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bureau of Civil Aviation Security<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-bureau-of-civil-aviation-security-bcas\/\" target=\"_blank\"> (BCAS)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BoPS shall be headed by an IPS officer (Pay Level-15).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the transition period of one year, the <\/span><b>Director General of Shipping<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (DGS\/DGMA) shall function as the Director General, BoPS.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Functions Bureau of Port Security<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It ensures <\/span><b>timely analysis, collection and exchange of security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-related information, with a special focus on <\/span><b>cyber security,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including a dedicated division to safeguard port IT infrastructure from digital threats.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Central Industrial Security Force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CISF) has been designated as a <\/span><b>Recognised Security Organisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RSO) for port facilities with responsibility for undertaking security assessments and preparation of security plans for ports.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2206443&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bureau of Port Security shall be constituted as a statutory body under the provisions of Section 13 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025.
