{"id":80056,"date":"2025-12-28T13:06:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T07:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=80056"},"modified":"2025-12-29T15:37:38","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T10:07:38","slug":"revamped-distribution-sector-scheme-rdss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/revamped-distribution-sector-scheme-rdss\/","title":{"rendered":"Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Installation of rooftop solar power plants is being expedited in Rajasthan under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS) to reduce transmission and distribution losses and improve power supply quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched by the <\/span><b>Ministry of Power,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Government of India, in<\/span><b> July 2021, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aimed at <\/span><b>transforming the electricity distribution sector.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Reforms-based and Results-linked Scheme <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with an outlay of Rs.3,03,758 crore over a period of five years from <\/span><b>FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seeks to<\/span><b> modernise India\u2019s power distribution sector through smart metering, network strengthening,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and f<\/span><b>inancial reforms,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the goal of creating financially sustainable and operationally efficient DISCOMs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme <\/span><b>aims to reduce the Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&amp;C) losses <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>pan-India levels of 12-15%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> Gap between Average Cost of Supply (ACS) and Average Revenue Realised (ARR) to zero by 2024-25.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Scheme has <\/span><b>two major components:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Part A:<\/b> <b>Financial support for Prepaid Smart Metering &amp; System Metering <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>upgradation of the Distribution Infrastructure.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Part B:<\/b> <b>Training &amp; Capacity Building <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and other Enabling &amp; Supporting Activities. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Financial assistance to DISCOMs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is provided for upgradation of the Distribution Infrastructure and for Prepaid Smart Consumer Metering &amp; System Metering <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">based on meeting pre-qualifying criteria and achieving basic minimum benchmark in reforms.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/rajasthan\/installation-of-rooftop-solar-power-plants-being-expedited-in-rajasthan\/article70443835.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Launched in July 2021 by the Ministry of Power, the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme aims to reform and strengthen India\u2019s electricity distribution sector.
