text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>new species of fungus.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered in the <\/span><b>bamboo forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> around <\/span><b>Mawsynram, Meghalaya.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>named after the Khasi Hills.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fungus was found on <\/span><b>dead stems of a thorny bamboo species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Chimonocalamus griffithianus) while surveying bamboo litter in the Mawsynram area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laboratory analysis confirmed that the organism did <\/span><b>not belong to any existing fungal genus.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, the researchers established a <\/span><b>new genus, Parasynnemellisia,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with<\/span><b> P. khasiana as its first described species.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It forms a distinct evolutionary lineage within the fungal family Phaeosphaeriaceae, separating it from superficially similar bamboo-associated fungi found elsewhere in Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What are Fungi?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All fungi <\/span><b>possess cell walls made of a tough polysaccharide called chitin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; the cell wall <\/span><b>provides structural strength<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the fungal body.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fungi are <\/span><b>incredibly diverse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with commonly encountered forms including <\/span><b>yeast, molds, truffles, and mushrooms.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fungi come in<\/span><b> both unicellular and multicellular<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forms, with <\/span><b>yeast <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">representing the <\/span><b>simplest unicellular type<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>molds like Rhizopus, Mucor,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Penicillium are examples of <\/span><b>multicellular fungi.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
