


{"id":80398,"date":"2025-12-30T13:29:46","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T07:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=80398"},"modified":"2026-01-02T17:35:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T12:05:27","slug":"rohtasgarh-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rohtasgarh-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Rohtasgarh Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Rohtasgarh Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An under-construction ropeway being built to improve access to the historic Rohtasgarh Fort in Bihar\u2019s Rohtas district collapsed during a trial run recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Rohtasgarh Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rohtasgarh Fort, also known as <\/span><b>Rohtas Fort,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is located in the <\/span><b>city of Rohtas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the <\/span><b>banks of the Sone River in Bihar.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>one of the largest forts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> not only in India but in the whole world and is spread over a radius of 26 miles.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>situated<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the <\/span><b>top of a hill<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is <\/span><b>one of the most ancient forts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in India, known for its <\/span><b>large defensive walls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and impressive architecture.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hill on which the fort is situated has a height of 1500 m.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort complex includes <\/span><b>gates, palaces, temples<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>reservoirs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, showcasing <\/span><b>Indo-Afghan architectural styles.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Rohtasgarh Fort <\/b><b>History<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort was <\/span><b>built <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the <\/span><b>36th ruler of the Solar dynasty, Raja Harishchandra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It was <\/span><b>named after his son, Rohitashva.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inscriptions at the fort suggest that the fort has<\/span><b> passed through<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the hands of <\/span><b>several empires,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including the <\/span><b>Hindu Shahis, the Ghurids, the Mughals,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and eventually the<\/span><b> British Raj.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Sher Shah Suri conquered the fort in 1539<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after losing the Fort of Chunar to Humayun, a Mughal ruler.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> fort, in its present form,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was significantly <\/span><b>strengthened by Sher Shah Suri. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his rule, the fort was guarded by 10,000 armed soldiers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Jama Masjid,<\/b> <b>built to the west<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the fort by Haibat Khan (a close aide of Sher Shah), is made of <\/span><b>white sandstone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>completed in 1543.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Akbar acquired the fort in 1587<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>gave it to Raja Maan Singh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who was appointed the <\/span><b>Governor of Bihar.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 16th century, <\/span><b>Jahangir\u2019s son, Prince Khurram, sought refuge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the fort.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 17th century,<\/span><b> Mir Kasim, the Nawab of Bengal, sought refuge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the fort <\/span><b>after losing a battle against the British.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the <\/span><b>fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><b>handed over to British Captain Goddard <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the Diwan of Rohtas, and the fort\u2019s defenses were destroyed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort<\/span><b> remained abandoned until 1857<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, during the <\/span><b>First War of Independence, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when <\/span><b>Babu Kunwar Singh\u2019s younger brother, Amar Singh, sought refuge t<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, the <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">British recaptured Rohtasgarh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and soon abandoned it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/ropeway-bihars-rohtasgarh-fort-collapses-during-trial-run-10441384\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rohtasgarh Fort is located in the city of Rohtas on the banks of the Sone River in Bihar.
