text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is part of the<\/span><b> Nicobar district<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/indian-islands\/\" target=\"_blank\">Andaman and Nicobar Islands<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Union Territory.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>northernmost island of the Nicobar group.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies <\/span><b>south of Little Andaman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>north of Nancowry Island.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite being a <\/span><b>small island<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 under 127 sq.km. \u2013 it holds <\/span><b>nearly half of Nicobar\u2019s population <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(over 17,800 in 2011) and serves as the district headquarters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>remarkably flat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> except for some cliffs in the north and small hilly areas in the interior.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>bordered by a silvery beach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>areas of flat ground consisting of coraline diluvium.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is inhabited primarily by the <\/span><b>Nicobarese tribal community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Scheduled Tribe).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The climate of Car Nicobar Island is a<\/span><b> tropical monsoon climate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as it is <\/span><b>just 9 degrees from the equator, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with an annual rainfall of 400 mm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Car Nicobar islands <\/span><b>do not have any evergreen forests,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which dominate the central and southern islands of the Nicobars.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Most of the island<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is covered with <\/span><b>coconut plantations,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and natural flora is present only in the interior areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The island has been designated an <\/span><b>Important Bird Area (IBA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by BirdLife International.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The island was <\/span><b>severely affected by the tsunami<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that was caused by the <\/span><b>2004 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian Ocean earthquake, which led to many deaths and damaged infrastructure. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
