after multiple photographers descended on their habitat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Galaxy Frog<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galaxy frogs (Melanobatrachus indicus) are one of the rarest and most <\/span><b>dazzling amphibians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The frog belongs to the <\/span><b>family Microhylidae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and sub-family Melanobatrachinae.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its dorsal <\/span><b>region is warty and speckled<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with bluish-white spots that resemble stars in the night sky, hence the name &#8216;Galaxy frog&#8217;.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been <\/span><b>declared the flagship species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>Mathikettan <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/anamudi-shola-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shola National Park<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Idukki , Kerala<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Appearance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It measures just 2 centimetres-3.5 centimetres and <\/span><b>has shiny black skin dotted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with pale blue speckles, resembling a clear night sky studded with stars.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Habitat: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>nestles under logs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and stones on the forest floor at <\/span><b>elevations above 900 metres.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is endemic to <\/span><b>wet evergreen forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of southern Western Ghats in <\/span><b>Kerala and Tamil Nadu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> states of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Conservation Status: IUCN Red List:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Vulnerable\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Characteristics of Galaxy Frog<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike other frogs, the Galaxy Frog <\/span><b>doesn\u2019t have a vocal sac<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and hence it can\u2019t be identified through its calls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>bright-coloured spots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are being inferred to aid the frog in communication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a nocturnal species and <\/span><b>extremely sensitive to light<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>absorbs water and oxygen through their skin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so moist air is a must for this species.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They keep their <\/span><b>skin moist by secreting a slimy secretion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> called mucus to breathe through the skin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Threats:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Major threats to these creatures are the <\/span><b>conversion of forest areas to farm land<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,
